The scene: a few friends are sitting around, drinking and talking and someone perks up and says, "Hey, let's play (insert name of drinking game here)." It's a scene that occurs over and over again, time after time. For some, the object of a drinking game is to add a little fun to to a party, for some it's to get drunk and for others it's to have a little fun at the expense of one of their dear friends–most drinking games involve trying to get someone else drunk.
But what games are the most popular? The folks at BarMeister.com have comprised a list of the top games as reviewed by their members. The following list has been refined to only include those games that have not been deemed to be "deadly" in regards to how drunk it is designed to make its players. Drinking can still be done responsibly and games are supposed to be fun, not deadly.
The leaders of this list are:
Beer Pong
The materials you need for this game are 6 half-filled cups of beer, a ping pong ball, and a table. The game is best played with two teams of two.
The cups of beer are arranged on the table in a triangle as if they were bowling pins. Each team takes a turn by trying to get the ping pong ball into the cups. If they succeed the other teams must drink that cup. Keep playing until one team is able to hit every cup. There are many variations on the rules of this basic game and when they are applies, Beer Pong becomes "Ultimate Beer Pong".
Snatch #1
Simple but effective. Everyone drinks a shot of beer every time the "F Word" is said. An alternative is to only have the person who said the "F Word" drink. This can prove effective in getting him to quiet down (once he has passed out).
Flip the Cup
Using plastic party cups and four to five people on a team, this game is a relay race. Either four ounces of beer or a shot of liquor is placed in plastic cups – one in front of each player on the team. Starting with one person from each team, the player drinks their drink, places their cup at the edge of the table, turns the cup upside-down on the table using only the fingers of one hand (no thumbs). When this is complete, the next player begins. The first team to accomplish this is the winning team.
Quarters
This game is played with a drink in the middle of the table. Each person tries to bounce a quarter off the table and into the glass. When a player accomplishes this, he chooses someone in the game to take a drink. Play moves to the next player. The successful shooter keeps shooting until he misses, then play passes to the next person on the left.
F.U.B.A.R.
A card drinking game in which a deck of cards is placed, spread out, on a table. Each player picks one card and performs the action that is related to the card he has chosen. For instance: Ace takes one drink, 2 takes two drinks, 3 takes three drinks, 4 ask a player a question, which must be answered with a question asked of someone else and so on. Play continues until one person fails to ask a question. Complete rules for this game can be found on the BarMeister website.
Asshole
This popular drinking game is a card game also called "Scum", President, Bum or a few other choice words. It is a card game that can be played as a drinking game but is just as much fun alcohol free.
